Meet Brandi Keiser

As a midlife female professional, you’re often juggling multiple roles—from managing a career or entrepreneurship to nurturing your family and personal life. This balancing act can be rewarding yet challenging, often leading to feelings of stress, overwhelm, and a sense of disconnect from your true self. If you find yourself in this situation where low energy and a lack of joy have become all too familiar, know that you’re not alone. Let’s talk about some strategies to help you navigate this phase and rediscover your sense of joy and fulfillment.

Acknowledge Your Feelings

The first step in managing stress and overwhelm is acknowledging your feelings. It’s okay to feel tired, lost, or disconnected at times. Recognizing and accepting these emotions and giving yourself permission to do so without judgment can be a powerful starting point toward positive change.

Prioritize Self-Care

Amidst busy schedules and responsibilities, self-care often takes a backseat. However, it’s crucial to prioritize taking care of yourself so your physical, mental, and emotional well-being can be replenished when you’re feeling depleted. This could include activities such as exercise, meditation, journaling, spending time in nature, or engaging in hobbies that bring you joy. For me, walking and listening to my body are paramount.

Set Boundaries

Setting boundaries is essential to maintain a healthy balance between work, family, and personal life. Learn to say “no” when necessary and delegate tasks when possible. Creating boundaries helps prevent burnout and allows you to allocate time and energy more effectively.

Seek Support

While setting boundaries is important, it’s equally important to recognize areas where you may have some walls to tear down. Don’t hesitate to seek support—or ask for help—from friends, family, or professional networks. Talking to someone you trust or seeking guidance from a therapist or coach can provide valuable insights and coping strategies. Surround yourself with a supportive community that understands and uplifts you.

Reconnect with Your Passions

Take time to reconnect with activities or passions that bring you joy and fulfillment. Whether it’s pursuing a hobby, volunteering, or learning something new, engaging in activities that resonate with your interests can reignite your sense of purpose and enthusiasm. If the thought of finding time to start a new activity feels daunting, start by just doing something once. We often feel more overwhelmed by imagining a new commitment when we really just need to enjoy a one-time change of scenery and mental stimulation.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga, can help reduce stress and promote a sense of calmness and clarity. Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine to cultivate resilience and improve overall well-being.

Reflect and Set Goals

Take moments to reflect on your values, aspirations, and goals. Identify what truly matters to you professionally and personally, and set realistic goals that align with your priorities. Having a clear sense of direction can empower you to make meaningful choices and navigate challenges more effectively.

Embrace Imperfection

It’s important to embrace imperfection and let go of unrealistic expectations. Accept that not everything will go according to plan, and that’s okay. Celebrate small victories, practice self-compassion, and learn from setbacks as opportunities for growth. (This is a big one!)

Cultivate Gratitude

Practicing gratitude can shift your perspective and enhance your overall well-being. Take time each day to acknowledge and appreciate the blessings in your life, whether it’s moments of joy, supportive relationships, or personal achievements. Cultivating gratitude can foster a positive mindset and resilience during challenging times.

Stay Flexible and Adapt

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and it’s essential to stay flexible and adaptable. Embrace change as an opportunity for growth and learning. Focus on what’s within your control and let go of what’s beyond it. Adapting to new situations with resilience and a positive mindset can help you navigate transitions more smoothly.

Managing stress and overwhelm as a midlife female professional requires a holistic approach that prioritizes self-care, boundaries, support, reflection, and gratitude. By implementing these strategies and embracing self-discovery, you can navigate this phase with resilience, rediscover your sense of joy, and create a fulfilling life that aligns with your aspirations and values.

All my best and more,

Brandi
