Meet Brandi Keiser

You’re not alone if you’re feeling lost in your professional life or as though you’re lacking purpose in your endeavors. I see you and have been there myself. Not only is this common, it’s temporary (cue huge sigh of relief). I think of this experience as feeling “rudderless.” You may be facing job uncertainty, lacking motivation, or unsure of your next steps, but it’s possible to regain your direction and confidence. Here I share several strategies to help propel you toward your purpose and keep you at the helm of your own professional journey

1. Reflect and Reevaluate

Reflect on Your Values and Goals: What truly matters to you? Take some time to answer that question. Do your current career path and goals align with your values? Feeling lost could be a sign that you’re meant to pursue a different path, one that is more aligned with your personal values and aspirations.

Reevaluate Your Skills and Interests: Identify your strengths and weaknesses. Consider how you can use your skills in new ways or identify what skills you might need to develop to move forward.

2. Set Clear, Achievable Goals

Small Steps Lead to Big Changes: Break down your larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks. Achieving each of these smaller tasks will give you a sense of progress and direction along the way.

Visualize Success: What does success look like for you? Hold that image in your mind’s eye. Visualization is a powerful tool for maintaining focus and motivation.

3. Enhance Your Skills and Knowledge

Continuous Learning: Invest time in learning new skills or deepening existing ones. Consider what formats may be best for these skills, whether it’s formal education, online courses, or self-study.

Stay Updated: Are you in-the-know about industry trends and news? Well, you should be! This will not only make you more knowledgeable but also more relevant and competitive in your field.

4. Bolster Your Personal Brand

Craft Your Story: Your story is your personal brand. Make it compelling. Make it reflect your professional journey and skills—and, most importantly, what you stand for.

Network: Connect with professionals in your field. Networking isn’t just about finding new opportunities. It’s about building relationships that can provide support, advice, and new perspectives.

5. Enlist Help

Mentors and Coaches: Seek out the insight and wisdom of those who’ve walked in your shoes. A mentor or a coach can provide invaluable advice, encouragement, and accountability.

Supportive Community: Surround yourself with people who inspire you and encourage your growth. This can be professional associations, online communities, or a group of like-minded friends.

Feeling rudderless is not the end of the voyage toward your vision. View this discomfort as an invitation to recalibrate—to deeply understand yourself, redefine your goals, and take calculated steps toward a more fulfilling professional life. Remember, every great journey begins with a single step. Take that first step today—or, if you’re weary on your way, just take the next one. You’ll find your footing along the path to a career that’s not only successful but also deeply satisfying.

All my best and more,

Brandi
